Ken Fighter IV

kenStreet Fighter IV is an awesome fighting game, easier and more recognizable to SFII fans than SFIII but still done so that a skilled player can destroy a noob faster than you can load a fight if you don’t do the install…

Anyway this isn’t about how good it is, or even the few things in it that aren’t so good, I’ll do a proper review later but there’s something annoying me much more than I have to rage about.

The Ken/Akuma Fighter IV Pheonom.

Now I’ve only spent 3 hours online, but seriously I have only came across only 8 characters being used.  The vast majority were shoryuken-happy Ken’s with a number of Akuma’s whose sole purpose in life is to do flying hadokens and raging demons with the odd dragon punch while you’re getting up Ken-style.  Seriously. The cheapness and lack of variety online is ridiculuous.  The others Gouken (4) Ryu (3) Sagat (1)  Blanka (1) Fei Long (1)  Dhalsim (1).

Now I’m sure I not the only one who gets bored of fighting Ken’s and Akuma’s (and a lesser extent Ryu’s).  My own brother is one of them (I’ll never be able to keep up with you if I’m not Ken) but come on people, I’m not as good with Sakura, Zangief and Cammy but WINNING ISN’T EVERYTHING! Try the other fighters. Think about it, if you don’t try anyone else and everyone else does the same it’s just endless Ken vs Ken until you acome across a fool like me who would rather make things a little more interesting.

To everyone out there playing as Honda, Blanka etc I salute you. To all you masses of Ken and Akuma players, damn you, you are boring me off playing online.

    On my few excisions into live SFIV fighting on the XBox I have seen a wide variety of characters, but I have to agree you are right.

    I have always been a Ryu man, but Ken does seem to rule the roost. But they are the two main characters, and they are better balanced and easier to play than most of the rest.

    While I can hold my own (sort of) there is a definite cheapness to some of them. That is why I counter that with Chun-Li or Guile :)

    If I wasn’t ken you’d beat me 10 – 0 which for me as uber competertive is just not on. I prefer a nice even 5 – 5 draw it’s sad but I have not spent the hours you have to get good with all the characters perhaps everyone else is the same?
    For me personally I’d loose 4 go on a rage tear up te living room reload as Ken and hammer some poor guy with the cheapest dirtiest tactics you have ever seen, then get destroyed by a professional Ken user.
