As I said I was going to wait for the directors cut as well.. but to be honest with you at going on for three hours it really does not need to be any longer. Nikobe has assured me the extra time is just not worth it.

If you are going to get it, you need to get down to HMV. They have some special packaging that actually made me think about buying it again. The box is actually a thin head (about the thickness of a normal DVD box) that opens out, with the disks inside. Annoyingly the Rorschach head contains the DVD version, and Dr Manhattan has the Blu-Ray version (annoying that.. I wanted Rorschach).

But no where near as good as the American special edition Directors-Cut edition : http://www.amazon.com/Watchmen-Directors-Exclusive-Digital-BD-Live/dp/B002BNKQDK/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1250888863&sr=8-5 :(

Its easy to get hung up on version of this film (I'm annoyed there is no commentary of any type... this film needs it) but there is a reason for the theatrical version.. it works better! I will see the extended version at some point, but for now I am happy. I have watched it through a few times now, and I think there is still more to see. Its a great film.. get it

Just download the extended version and see for yourself, I'm not sure the longer film is better but it is worth seeing once. When I re-watch I'll be watching the neater cinema cut.

I will be waiting until the Director's Cut comes until I buy the Blu-Ray version myself. I was really looking forward to the extra footage in it, like more story on the original Nightowl for example, but if they aren't things to really be impressed about then maybe I will download it (like my friend did) and watch it from that instead. I watched it in the cinema when it was first on and really enjoyed it. So I am not gonna buy the same version and then an extended version later on so I already decided that I will wait.

I bought the UK Blu-ray and watched it last night (after watching the Directors Cut the previous week), I don't feel any loss at the missed minutes the film felt more solid at the sub 3 hour mark with the pacing set just right. I'm not a huge fan of unnecessary gore either and the UK one is just right...really no need to zoom in and show someone having fingers shot off.

Yes it is a disappointment that they couldn't do the same in both regions but either version you watch its a great film. I've seen the Directors cut and even though its listed as 27 mins extra it doesn't feel like it, the changes are very small extensions to existing shots in some cases making them feel a little too long. There is even an extra scene which is so badly acted I thought it was a joke and they seem to have just added allot more gore for no reason (in the lobby scene with the assassin the woman's fingers get shot off in grim HD detail).

Another disappointing thing about the european release as that unlike the Americans, we dont get a directors cut upon release, which is something like another 27 minutes extra, and I have no idea if and when they'll release it over here.
