Watching the watchman

I am looking forward to seeing this film. I am out of touch with comics, I think living in the UK means its much harder to actually get them. Let alone follow the trends (but that is because I am out-of-the-loop). But everything I have seen from Alan Moore is astounding. I know he hates the adaptations of his work, but this does look amazing.

A confession

I have to admit I love “The League of Extraordinary English Gentlemen” (again my Britishness I suppose). But I love the film and the book. When I saw the film I knew little of Alan Moore, I had heard of him but that was about it. But the concepts in the film are truly excellent, as well as the art work. I’ll admit it has its flaws. But I am willing to over look them to see a (what is now) rear film that is entertaining and intelligent. But if it were not for the film, I would never have read the book. The was a massive step forward, expanding the ideas and an all round better story (not a surprise).

Having now read Dracula the whole story of the league makes much more sense, and surprisingly the ideas in Dracula are so far from that of the league.

The novel

So I am looking forward with great interest to see the film. I have purposely not read the graphic novel so I can enjoy it without influence. I will read the novel after I have seen the film, and I’m sure will enjoy both.

Yeah I’m quietly looking forward to this, I loved the book (its in the Times 100 reads) and what I’ve seen has been very very close to the book.

I think you have it right, watch the film first then if you love it read the book for the few details they missed out.
