My childhood favourite cartoon series, I absolutely loved this. Anyone else watched this series? It's about a boy called Esteban who joins a navigator called Mendoza and his guys to find the Cities of Gold and find his father. They are joined by an Incan girl and a boy who is the last descendant of a sunken empire. It's all a mix of ancient American History and archaeology. They encounter the Maya, Inca and Olmecs during their journey. They discover and use a solar powered ship called the Solaris and a Golden Condor. They are also pursued by others who are in search of the ancient Cities of Gold. It premiered in the UK around 1986 roughly. I was browsing something the other day and saw this on wikipedia and decided to have a read through it again remembering some of the episodes. You can watch them online on various websites. What caught my eye was the fact that it originates in Japan, and is classes as an anime and not cartoon. I never realized this until now. Also, a film based on this was started in 2008. They are also creating 3 brand new seasons of 26 episodes (not sure if this is 26 each or 26 total, not enough detail has been released about it) to this anime with a planned release starting in 2011.. I am 1 very excited chappy to hear this news. I really can't wait to see a updated version of this anime, should be pretty cool! « Last edit by Takatori on Thu Dec 10, 2009 11:02 am. »

This was my fave cartoon as a kid too, I would have thought this was a bit before your time though? I have them in boxset somewhere, The title song is the best ever. Kids cartoons from the 1980's had the best themetunes.

Yep golden condor was without a doubt the best thing in the series, it was just absolutely awesome, and it brings back so many memories when I see it. Well it aired in 1986, but repeated again in 1989, 1989 was probably the sorta year that I watched it, since I would have been 4 when it first aired, and would have been 7 when it repeated so it works out. Definitely not before my time, maybe Titty's I've been meaning to buy the dvd set, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't know whether they are doing a blu ray version or not, although, seein how old it is I'm not sure how good it would be unless they really took the time to transfer it properly (like the Aliens movies, taking their time to transfer properly otherwise it would be shit because they are on the really old film). I'll get them soon enough.

I thought I'd check around for a blu ray version, but none are made yet and currently not plans for it either. I've signed up to be notified if and when it gets transferred to Blu ray though. At the same time I was on Amazon for Cities of Gold and saw a link for Dungeons and Dungeons complete series on dvd.... £7.88!!! bargain, just bought it

Love Dungeons & Dragons If you watch it all and want to have an ending the last episode was never animated but the author released the script online http://dl.dropbox.com/u/244186/requiem_sec.pdf (PDF)

I used to love Cities of Gold just for the Golden Condor which seemed the most amazing thing ever when I was a kid but when I tried watching it again a few years I was saddened at how slow it seemed to be, that and remembering the condor isn't in an episode wrecked my previous ability to stick with it because I'd hope the condor will be in it soon. Still a good series but just not to my liking.

This website is good http://www.cartoonintros.com/Has a nice collection of cartoon intros to watch through. 1 of my favourite is missing though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3EoBl5uBfU 'These are the Adventurs of the Galaxy Rangers!' Oh yes, I used to get so exicted from that intro alone, so many memories.
