I was always under the impression that what was known as "Macron 1" in the states was always a combination of GoShogun and Srungle. At least that's how I remember seeing it aired on Chicago's WPWR Channel 60 in the early 80's.
I've also looked all over online to see if I could find a copy of Macron 1 (on DVD no less...my VCR isn't even hooked up anymore). Those 30-60 minute KidZone VHS tapes are all I ever saw, and knowing how those are sometimes redubbed and re-reditted I thought it likely wouldn't resemble what I remembered. At this point I think my best bet at ever finding a copy of the Macron 1 series is finding a bootleg copy at one of the sci-fi conventions.

I'm really glad to see this sight. Even many of my anime and 80's savvy friends don't remember this. This was one of my staples from childhood. If I recall correctly it actually used to play around the 3:30-4:30 PM time slot on a channel that didn't really play cartoon. Our U.S. version did have Akū Daisakusen Srungle stuck in it but as a kid I didn't know it wasn't suppose to be there and it's a decent little series that doesn't take too much away from Macron-1. I'm glad others liked this show as much as I did.

First let me start out by saying this is a great page. I had no idea about how butchered the show was over here in the U.S. I had some very fond memories of it. Mainly the awesome theme song. There are rumors floating around that it was performed by Franky goes to Hollywood, but I don't really believe it. You were right about it being aired at 5 am. As a child I used to wake up around 5 when my dad was going to work and watch Macron 1 followed by Jayce and the Wheeled warriors. The robot was awesome. Having the chance to check it out online (US version), I have to agree with you. It makes no freaking sense. Thanks to your site I'm going to check out the UK version as it sounds much better.

Pics of Macstar along with a few other anime toys http://www.flickr.com/photos/85964213@N00/sets/72157624024108482/
I have hundreds of toys, I need to get them all pictured but that takes up valuable anime watching and game playing time so that's all for now :)

Wow i'm glad somebody knows what i'm talking about when I bring up Macron 1 which I do often lol. I first saw Macron 1 in 1989 at my grandmother's house in McGehee, Arkansas when i was about 4 years old. It was a VHS you could rent at the grocery store in a town of about 4,000 people. So far, that's about the only place i've ever seen it. I just bought some VHS off ebay but my VHS player is so old it doesn't work anymore lol.
