Valkyria Chronicles

Valkyria Chronicles coverThis is an interesting game, every magazine online and off gives it huge scores and yet apparently it hasn’t sold well at all outside of Japan. I have to admit, I played the demo and wasn’t that impressed.  I can tell Sega exactly what went wrong though, the demo was not focused on what should have been the main selling point – the phenomenal story. I haven’t got to sleep before 3am since getting this… (more…)

The prettyest little laptop in town

The prettiest little laptop in town

I have finally managed to lay my grubby mitts on a netbook. I have been after one for some time, and now one is mine.

The Acer Aspire One is my machine of choice. A great combination of look, performance, and price. There are now a number of machines you could go for, all offering about the same features, all for around the same cost.

But I think the Aspire one stands out as the machine of choice (at least for the geeks out there). Not because it is the best, but because it is one of the cheapest, and one of the best performers.

The Samsung is also worth considering, but at almost twice the price it really is not in the running.

Finally Dreamworks starts to come good

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

At last Dreamworks are starting to live up to their premise. Up till now they have just made middle of the road animations. Some are OK, others are just crap. But when they are up against Pixar they have no choice but to come up with something good. Kung Fu Panda is a good film (not Pixar worthy, but a good fun film). I am hoping this will follow suit.

Mighty Boosh Live 2008 – Wembley

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

About a year ago when Boosh mania™ was at its height I was asked if I wanted to go see them live and I jumped at the chance. The downside being the tickets would be for the next December, 12 full months away but I was still really excited.

Boosh Live 2008

Boosh Live 2008

Allot happens in a year and in this case the third series of the Might Boosh tv series came and went, the second series is one of my favorite things ever with classic episodes all the way through. The second series introduced us to the Shaman council and my favorite episode ever “The Priest and the Beast“.  The third series however was a bit of a let down, not bad by any means it just had so much to live up too after the peak of series 2 it couldn’t hope to match it.  Series 3 did have a few classic moments and one standout episode “Party” where the comedy was clearly focused on the characters and saw the return of the popular shaman council.

When “Rock, Paper, Scissors” is just not good enough.

Star Wars. But not in a good way

Looks great. As long as its a still image

Looks great. As long as its a still image

I have been trying to fight my way through “Clone Wars”. All I can say is it is damn hard work. The plot is monotonous. The CG work is bland. The characters are unlikeable. The plot is monotonous (yes that’s in there twice, for good reason). But I just can’t understand how anyone would let this happen?

We all grew up on Star Wars. We love it. It taught us about the world, the struggle of good and evil, don’t judge someone by how they look, and when your backed into a corner.. shoot first! (more…)

Ghostbusters – Looking Good

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Who doesn’t like Ghostbusters. If you say you don’t it means your a witch!

Ghostbusters the game is coming, and it is looking like it might actually work. Not just work, but actually be a piece of genius.

Rock Band 2

Tis the Grizz - "Rock Band, it's just better"

While Sideswipe happily sits between Rock Band and Guitar Hero. I am committed to Rock Band. Why have I switched to Rock Band when I have played Guitar Hero for much longer? Not only do I prefer the look and feel of Rock Band, but because I am sick of being ripped off. While both try to tempt you to spend all your money the best they can, Rock Band doesn’t try to punish you for supporting their series.

Look at the two latest versions of the series (Rock Band 2 & Guitar Hero World Tour) and they are almost the same game. Guitar Hero are now blatantly copying what Rock Band have done and just repackaged it in there own look and feel. Both are now full band games (2 Guitars, Drums, Mic). What more can be said? for all intents and purposes they are the same game. The only thing that is different is how they behave and how they respond to you.

This is where Rock Band takes the lead.
